SCIENTIST
The majority of Nathan’s academic career centered on research examining the marine microbiome and its effects on Earth’s climate and biogeochemistry. He specialized in microbial genomics investigating the genetic controls that led to large-scale ecosystem changes.
Since leaving academia, his passion to scale equitable environmental solutions led him to broaden his research lens to include the social and behavioral sciences. As the Vice President of Science Strategy & Communications at Vesta, Nathan collaborates with diverse researchers to not only conduct technical interdisciplinary research in marine carbon dioxide removal but also the just application of technology through local governance methods with vulnerable communities.
